Hi! This fundraiser is for Ricky Pastuszynski (and his family). They reside in a small town-Alden, NY. As a life long Alden resident- Ricky is a loving father and husband. In spring of 2020, he suffered a life threatening abdominal infection that led to a Sepsis emergency.
He has underwent multiple surgeries/reconstructions and had a lengthy hospital stay including time spent in the ICU on a ventilator. While he was at the hospital (alone d/t visitor restrictions because of Covid), his family was providing end of life care to his father at home who he never got the chance to say goodbye to. He has experienced and continues to have chronic, debilitating pain along with multiple other new diagnoses that effect his every day living including loss of multiple abdominal organs.
He has had an extremely long recovery road and has been receiving Homecare Nursing/PT services multiple times a week for treatment to an open abdominal surgical wound. He continues to consult with a Wound Clinic center and may need additional surgical interventions in the future because of his loss of abdominal muscle/support. He is required to utilize an abdominal brace daily. He has been unable to work and lost his job as Seafood Manager at his local grocery store chain (TOPS in Alden) and is unable to complete so many of the things he once enjoyed. Ricky also lives with an Autoimmune disorder. The stressors of all this continue to exacerbate those symptoms and flare-ups, making his everyday living even more uncomfortable.
Ricky is married to his High School sweetheart, Jo. They have been together for over 21 years now. Jo has worked in the Healthcare field for 11+ years serving the developmentally disabled, Geriatrics, SAR and Hospice care. She currently works for Catholic Health. For the past 4 years she has served the WNY community with MSHC providing nursing services to those in need within the comforts of their own home. Jo is the glue that hold her family together and she carries her families' Health Insurance, but she herself has been out of work since the end of this past June. She experienced an idiopathic Anaphylaxis episode that hospitalized her and has led to many new follow up Specialist appointments, testing & treatments. Jo is currently under the care of a Neurosurgeon. They share two beautiful children, Teddy(12) and Belle(9). Both children are doing remarkably well considering both had premature births at 30 weeks & 28 weeks, each spending their first couple of months in SOCH NICU. It was after Teddys birth that Jo decided to go to nursing school to be able to have the opportunity to care for others the way her children were cared for while in the NICU. Teddy is Autistic and all these uncertainties over the past year and half have been difficult to cope with, not to mention the worries of Covid. He receives services through Summit Behavioral Health and has made great progress as he navigates through 7th Grade at Alden Middle School! Theodore has the sweetest, most purest heart! Belle is wonderful young woman...so smart, hardworking and loving! She is so happy to be back at School at Alden Intermediate and is even prouder to be a member of AJFC Cheerleading! The Pastuszynski Family LOVE their animals! They have 2 Basset Hounds, Beauford & Buttercup and 3 cats, Gracie, Leo and Boots! They love their local sports teams...GO BILLS, GO SABRES and GO BULLDOGS!
Rising Medical bills, heath care/medication costs and maintaining the household upkeep have become increasingly difficult to manage due loss of earned income and physical limitations.
