Alanna Jones' fund for expenses
Donation protected
I am John Carroll, the Head Competitive Coach at the Surrey Gymnastic Society in BC, Canada. I am calling on the general public, all my gymnastics friends around the world and the SGS Alumni to help raise funds for.....
ALANNA JONES has been an important part of the Surrey Gymnastic Society for her entire life. Both her older sisters Kelsey and Kristy were members of our gym when Alanna was born, so she has grown up with us.
Alanna needs our help! In August 2015, Alanna fell, more than 20 feet, out of a tree and suffered a life changing inury, breaking her neck. Alanna is currrently a quadriplegic with no use of her legs and arms.
For the last 3 months she was fighting for her life and recovering at Vancouver General Hospital. Her family; Shelley, Gord, Kelsey and Kristy have been by her side through the whole recovery. At one point, doctors wanted Alanna to have an electronic device put into her to help her breathe without a respirator. She told them, 'not yet', as they had not yet given her a chance to try breathing on her own. So the challenge was on! The first time the respirator was turned off she breathed on her own for 25 minutes. She is now breathing completely on her own, showing there is no quit in this girl's personality.
Alanna has now recovered enough to have been moved to the GF Strong Rehab Center in Vancouver where she will work hard over her next recovery period to learn how to cope with her new life as it is right now and continue to work toward a full recovery.
Alanna and her family will have a lot of expenses coming their way over the next few years for sure. Renovating a house for a wheelchair, a vehicle that can transport Alanna and her chair, physiotherapy, massage therapy, everyday supplies that cost a bundle. The costs will add up quickly and insurance will only cover so much. I am sure there are many expenses that I have not thought of and I am already way beyond the $100,000 target.
The Jones family has been at Surrey Gymnastics for 26 years. The three girls and Shelley have all been extremely helpful. All the girls competed for SGS, all four of them have coached for SGS and they have all done many volunteer hours for our community club. Helping them now would mean the world.
Any small or large donation you are willing to make would be so appreciated, you have no idea.
