St. Agatha News School 6th Annual Graduation
St. Agatha News School (TNS) teaches online and broadcast journalism as well as investigative, news, reviews, columns, and feature writing to Chicago’s inner-city youth and adults. August 29, 2021 marks the program’s 6th annual graduation. We strive to create a rewarding rite of passage for these individuals by celebrating their achievements made during our intense training process.
Over the years, many of our graduates have moved on to college and further training in the fields of journalism and broadcast news. This year, nearly half of them are registered to attend higher learning institutions to further their education.
This is quite an achievement especially since many of them enter our intensive training struggling with basic reading and writing skills. Statistics gathered from a neighborhood school demonstrate their challenges, “Little Village Lawndale High School is a public school located in Chicago, Illinois. It has 317 students in grades 9-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1. According to state test scores, 5 percent of students are at least proficient in math and 5 percent in reading.”
Since TNS is a subsidiary of a non-profit organization, we lack the financial resources to provide these hard-working individuals with the celebration they deserve. Please help us reward their hard work and their dedicated efforts to not only better themselves but also provide a purpose-filled path their peers can follow and build upon.
