St. Aidan's CBS - India Immersion Programme 2025

Edmund Rice schools provide opportunities for teachers and students to connect with communities in the developing world. This programme, known as the Immersion Programme, reflects our mission as Catholic schools and indeed is a unique and inspirational expression of the Edmund Rice ethos. St. Aidan’s CBS will embark on a seventh Immersion Project in October 2025. Five staff members and thirteen students will travel to Delhi, India over the midterm break and spend two weeks in the area.

Our previous Immersion Projects were centred in Tanzania and we linked in with an associated Christian Brothers School there. The 2019 Immersion team raised nearly €45,000 and we were able to donate a large amount of money to the projects which we visited. This will be our first time visiting India where we plan to financially support the various projects that we visit in Delhi, including groups that work with children in the slums, victims of acid attacks and various human rights organisations.

The St. Aidan’s students who have travelled on these Immersion Programmes have benefited enormously from developmental awareness and gained a deep appreciation for the struggle that people in the developing world face each day. They are ambassadors for our school and Whitehall parish while they are out there and deep links have been forged with our partner schools.

Preparation for an Immersion Project involves a large amount of fundraising as well a good deal of emotional/physical preparation for the trip. In the past we have had race nights, quizzes, bag packing, church gate collections and generous donations from local businesses.
