St Joseph's Community College - Tonga
Donation protected
St Joseph's Community College on the island of Ha'apai, Tonga is a small somewhat isolated school with a passionate Principal, Sr 'Alisi Naufahu. They are a small but growing school from primary aged students through to secondary.
They are actively pursuing opportunities for vocational education amongst their senior students and food tech and hospitality in particular are subjects of great interest to many of the kids. Their facilities are in very poor condition however and they have limited basic kitchen equipment that the students can use to assist in their learning and experience.
They have very limited financial capacity to improve these facilities and government support for education is also quite limited. Their remoteness from the main island of Tonga also exacerbates their overall disadvantage.
I am trying to raise money to cover the cost of building materials and skilled labour to refurbish the space and also to purchase 2 stoves, kitchen equipment and furniture and solar hot water.
Any support that people could offer I know will be invaluable to the students and teachers of the College.
Thank you.
This is the current food tech classroom - I believe only one of the stoves is working.
There is no hot water to the classroom and these are the prep benches.
The largest mango tree I've ever seen - in the middle of the College grounds.
