Help SLAPS find their own forever home
St Lucia Animal Protection Society was established in 1998 as a non-profit organization. The mission of the Society is to help improve the welfare of the island’s animal population, provide education on the humane treatment of animals, work with local veterinarians to raise awareness of the need to spay and neuter dogs and cats; to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home as many stray and abandoned dogs and cats as possible.
We are not able to take in every stray unfortunately; only the injured and vulnerable. We travel around beaches towns and waste grounds feeding them daily; one by one these are picked up to spay/neuter and be returned to their area.
In 2016 we set up a surgery in our clinic so we could employ local vets to spay/neuter and to take advantage of overseas vets who wish to volunteer. A local businessman wanting to help generously gave funds to establish the Tiberius Foundation, a spay & neuter programme. Our main goal is to reduce the number of unwanted animals being born.
In the first 5 months of 2020 we have rescued over 180 puppies.
The company that owns the property we rent went into receivership in January and we have been asked to leave; we are currently caring for 118 puppies/dogs and have found this exceedingly difficult, unable to find another place to rent. We have been talking to the Government in the hope they could give us a small piece of land; they sound willing and sympathetic, however over the past 5 months the Covid-19 situation has hampered any progress and they still have not offered us anywhere.
With more pressure to vacate we are desperately putting out this Gofundme to ask for help to buy a piece of land. A small area around 13,000/15,000 sq ft this averages at £135,000; to fence, construct pens and build a small building would cost another £90,000. We are asking you for help to keep our organization going to improve the lives of animals in St Lucia.
