Our story so far:
In 2014, Sophia Mihailovna Boikov, traveled to the place where her father, Mihail Tonkih, was born - the village of Shonoktui (460 kms from Chita) After touring the village and surrounding areas and realizing that the nearest church was a 90 minute drive away, she returned to Australia and began plans to build a church for this village in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
Between 2014 and 2016 she received blessings from Metropolitan Hilarion - First Hierarch of ROCOR and Bishop Dimitri of Nerchinsk and Krasnokamensk (now Metropolitan of Chita and Petrovsk-Zabaikalsk of the MP) to begin work on this huge project.
Sophia Mihailovna returned to Shonoktui in 2016 where she was instrumental in baptizing many of the local villagers. Around 70 people, both young and old, were baptized, with Sophia Mihailovna and her son becoming godparents to many of them.
Since that time, Sophia, together with her son, Michael, and other members of her immediate family and friends, have worked tirelessly to fulfill this dream.
In late August 2018, hopefully, the foundations will be laid. They will be blessed by the Rector of the newly established community and church - His Grace, Aksyi, the Ruling Bishop of the diocese of Nerchinsk and Krasnokamensk, a vicariate of the Chita metropolia.
The complex includes: a church to accommodate 80-100 people, a two unit house for clergy and warden, bathrooms and a storage/work shed.
God willing and with your help, the entire project will be completed by the end of next summer i.e. September 2019!
Thank you and may God bless you!
