Our project is entirely community funded.  This total does not include many donations we have received of paint, pavers, vinyl decals, and thousands of books that have crossed through our libraries.  It also doesn't include time, labor, or the cost of gas to deliver, as that has all been a gift.  We are grateful for the support of our project.

At the start of the pandemic, I put an old china hutch in our driveway and filled it with books.  Thus, our little lending library was born.

Since then, we have upgraded to an old phone booth and added a newspaper stand children's library.  We've also upcycled 204 newspaper stands to turn them into lending libraries that have been spread throughout 180 locations in St. Petersburg.  I pick up the stands from Tampa Bay Times.  Then I scrape them, wash them, sand them, paint them, replace the plexiglass and attach the charter and standard vinyl.  Finally, I deliver them to families who want to host a little library in the St. Petersburg area.  Families get to decorate however they choose.  There's no charge to the families, other than their registration with the Little Free Library Network, which we assist with if needed. We didn't realize the impact it would have on our family and the city of St. Petersburg, but we are happy to add a bright spot in such a difficult time.  (Spectrum News 9, Tampa Bay 10, Tampa Bay Times, Fox 13 Tampa Bay, ABC News )

The newsstands are a gift from Tampa Bay Times.  Little Free Library Network has given us 29 charters to help put us on the map. But I've still put $1,500 from our savings account into my project, between purchasing and upcycling the phone booth, buying paint and supplies for all the newsstands, and purchasing high quality and diverse books to add to the libraries (in addition to the fabulous books that have been donated).

At this point, I need a bit of help to continue my project.  Fellow book lovers, are you able to help spread the literature love throughout St. Petersburg?
