St. Swithins Restoration Fund

St. Swithins is situated in the small, rural village of Baumber, on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Parts of the Church date back to the 12th and 13th century. It was extensively rebuilt in the mid 18th century in the "Gothick" style we see today to serve as a mausoleum for the Earls of Lincoln and the Dukes of Newcastle-under-Lyne.

Following the theft of lead from the roof in 2020 Ecclesiastical Insurance refused to pay for it's replacement and after extended negotiations it was decided to start repairs earlier this year.

Architects and surveyors reports discovered serious deterioration of masonry and timbers that previous work had ignored and covered up.

The original estimate has escalated to around £68,000

Once this essential work has been completed, refurbishment of the interior can begin to bring our church back to its former glory.
