Meet Rhonda-Marie Parke, a legally blind runner, the host of this fundraiser. Rhonda-Marie will be heading to Wisconsin in September of 2024 with her guide runner Byron Guptill to compete in the Mammoth Endurance Race; The Double Anvil, to raise funds and especially to raise awareness for Achilles Canada.
Achilles Canada helps athletes with disabilities participate in sports. It is their belief that anyone can take part, and Rhonda-Marie has been proving that true over and over again.
Now, it’s time to show the world, that not only is it possible, but with your help, its achievable for everyone.
The Double Anvil is a double Ironman distance race. This will be the first time Mammoth Endurance has welcomed a vision impaired athlete team to their race.
But this is not Rhonda-Marie nor Byron’s first attempt at a distance sport. Both have competed in a number of various 100mile races, open water swimming events, adventure runs, and multi race days.
In 2014 Rhonda-Marie ran the Bruce Peninsula Bruce Trail end to end, a total of 885 km with 50 guide runners over the course of 20 days. In 2013 Rhonda-Marie was a part of the Boston Marathon, the year it was targeted for an attack. In 2018 she did the Vol State, 314 miles across TN. It took 8 days and 16 hours. She is an inspiration, and no stranger to overcoming hardships and proving what can be done.
Byron Guptill has run the HURT 100, and guided Rhonda-Marie’s guided 5km swim this past August, among other events.
This upcoming race in September consists of a near 8km swim (which they will do tethered), a close to 360km bike (which they will do on a tandem bike) and a double marathon run (which will be guided).
