Stacey's Heart

Donation protected
Hi, I am Nicole, the oldest of two daughters of Steve and Stacey Luce. Thank you for taking a moment to read about the recent updates to my family.

For some context, my mom has had a mitral valve prolapse her whole life. Instead of her valve being a push-only door (like most of us), it acts as a push-and-pull door for the upper and lower chambers of her heart.

My parents went to NYC for a work conference my dad was attending. They planned to play "tourist" around NYC when the conference was over.

On Tuesday, August 15th, as they took their seats to watch a play, my mom had a Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD), her heart failed and as my dad puts it, "she was gone". Immediate action was taken by Good Samaritans in the theater, as well as EMS who arrived. My mom was "down" for 17 minutes as they worked on her and transported her to Mount Sinai West Hospital.

God has my mom in His hands! By His power, she does not have brain damage and only 7% survive a Sudden Cardiac Death. Her SCD was caused by a malignant mitral valve prolapse, which occurs in less than 1% of people with this condition.

God's hand in all of this does not stop there. Once it was discovered the cause of the SCD was her Mitral Valve Prolapse failing, they immediately transported her to The Mount Sinai Hospital where the world-renowned Mitral Valve Heart Surgeon, Dr. David H. Adams, MD works. His team ran many tests coming up with a plan to save my mom.

Monday, August 21st, my mom will have open heart surgery performed by Dr. Adams. He will not only repair her heart but also place a defibrillator. She will be kept in the surgery ICU for about 5 days post-surgery. After that, my parents are uncertain of when she will be cleared to fly back home to Texas.

Please spread the good news about God's miracle in my mom!

Staying on theme with their “give first” life style, my parents will be donating to the Mitral Foundation: https://www.mitralfoundation.org

Thank you for all the love and prayers as our family takes this one day at a time. We lean into God and know He has His hand in all of this. My mom is one of the strongest people I know, overcoming so much in her life.

Thank you so much for taking the time to step into this journey with us. God deserves all the glory and praise. It is a miracle straight from God that my mom is alive. Love you all, thank you again!
