Hello! I am Angela Johnson, my husband JC and I are the owners of The Serving Spoon Restaurant in Inglewood California (Which by the way he doesn't know I'm doing this. Him being the amazing strong Black man that he is and trying to do everything on his own is a lot and this is the only way I feel I can help and hopefully take some of the pressure off of him because of something he has no control over ). We have been married for 35 years and have 3 wonderful children and one grandson.
This is a Black Owned and operated restaurant and truly community based which has been here and in this same location since 1983, started by my Dad Harold Sparks. We purchased the restaurant from him in 2004 when he decided to retire. We are known for our amazing breakfast selections and a place where people come to connect, have a great meal and fellowship with each other. This restaurant has been a pillar in this community for years. There are so many beautiful stories, events, memories, gatherings, etc that have been shared in this space.
Because of this Covid-19 pandemic, all of that has changed drastically. We are no longer allowed to embrace our customers, nor sit down with them while they eat and check in on how they're doing, find out about what's happening in their lives. We can no longer have dine in seating and now they've even taken away outside dining from us, so we can only offer take out, it has been a very sad awakening.
With that being said we are trying desperately to keep our doors open. Our costs keep rising even during these times, but we refuse to raise our prices by passing on that cost to our customers. However, we still have to pay our staff and all the other expenses that do not stop such as utilities, vendors, taxes, etc. We have staff members that have spouses who have lost their jobs as well, which means that they only have one income and are depending on our employee to stay employed. There are even some that we would love to help that we have had to lay off and that have had to quit because of the homeschooling situation. Yes they get some unemployment assistance but that is still not enough to manage their households.
This fund raiser is for us to be able to pay our staff and hopefully be able to assist them with additional funds to help with their families. As well as be a help to others for them to be able to keep the doors open until this nightmare ends.
We have been there and are there regularly, for countless amounts of people, situations, organizations and causes and we are in need now and hopefully people can be there for us.
Thank you so much and May God Richly Bless You Always
