Staging "Carry On," A New Play with an Old Soul
A few months ago, the creative team at the 14th St. Y reached out to Jane Tuv with what would become a gift that kept on giving: an invitation to create an adult performance that would be engaging to the Russian-speaking Jewish community and yet relatable to the general population. Not wanting to write another immigration story, Jane reached out to her close-knit community of performers and artists, while simultaneously posing questions on social media about family histories. An idea was born: to tell a story of intergenerational inheritance through the symbol of a fur coat; with an all-female cast and creative team; and a heavy dose of research and soul searching.
Producing, writing, and staging our play, "Carry On," has become a labor of passion, connection, historical unraveling, emotional healing, and love. And we are supremely lucky to have a creative team of smart, extraordinarily talented, go-getter professionals who picked up Jane's proposal and fully invested their hearts, spirit, ideas, and time while developing this project. We are deeply grateful to the the 14th St. Y for their belief in our creative collective, to the initial anonymous donation that helped seed this project, and to the Covenant Foundation for providing additional resources and for supporting Jane and her commitment to connecting the Russian-speaking Jewish diaspora to Jewish life through cultural arts.

"Carry On" is set to premiere at the 14th St. Y Theater in November, and will be made available online to national audiences.
