Stand by Anita: Emergency Surgery and Lost Income
Donation protected
Anita is a mom and caregiver for her two adult children on the spectrum. She and her daughter volunteer for MyPlacesCE.org, which has weekly fun, adaptive, and integrated events for people with disabilities and their caregivers in the Treasure Valley of Idaho. Anita is a valued community member and always willing to help those in need.
At the beginning of April, Anita had to be rushed to the ER in severe pain. Anita's appendix burst, and she started going septic. Anita needed to spend 10 days in the hospital and will require an additional four to six weeks of healing at home. While our community was able to rally and support her children, Anita lost her income from the time she was hospitalized.
Most direct support professionals/caregivers do not get paid time off or sick leave. According to the Office of Performance Evaluation, Idaho is $2 behind the national average for paying caregiver wages.
Would you please help Anita with the care costs of this emergency surgery and hospital stay?
