Stand by Cheryl: Financial Assistance Needed
Donation protected
Hi friends! I am reaching out today to see if you are able to help out a dear friend and chemistry colleague of mine, Cheryl Trusty. She is having some medical issues right now and we all know the financial burden that brings. If you have some extra funds and are willing, please donate, or simply share this with anyone you know that can help, send her some healing vibes, or keep her in your prayers. Everything counts!
Here is some background and information that Cheryl provided and gave me permission to share:
She was diagnosed with MS in 1995 and was taking a medication that helped some up until 2015. She had to stop taking it when it became too much for her liver. Neuralgia remains consistent in her left foot.
She began feeling dizzy in the Fall of last year but had not really paid much attention until she fell a couple of times. While visiting her daughter in Mobile, on February 28th, she had a bad fall and passed out, causing a head injury. Her daughter took her to a small ER nearby them in MS, where she was given a CT scan. They found a brain bleed and traumatic brain injury, sewed her up with 5 stitches, and she was moved by ambulance to a trauma center with a neurosurgical team back in Mobile. She was told that she would be in ICU for 4-5 days while they monitor the brain bleed and then to a Neuro trauma floor for rehab for 3-4 days. However, the hospital missed meals and failed to give her some normally required daily medications. When her concerns were finally heard to receive the proper medicines or send her to a hospital that would, they elected to discharge her.
She and her daughter decided to come back to GA to a better hospital, where she did in fact receive more than a week of additional Neuro ICU time and then regular Neuro ward rehab time, where they additionally found a broken left ulna.
She is still having some issues and needs to be back with familiar doctors. She is getting a handicapped accessible place and requires a part-time caregiver. Anything you can give would be so helpful and appreciated.
