Stand by DB's Children: They Matter

“The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe”
-James Baldwin
Community is a concept we bring up a lot; what it means, how it functions, and the endless value it brings to our lives and spaces. We rejoice together, mourn together, and grieve in tandem, we extol the comfort we receive in times of darkness and sing our gratitude when the gaps of our lives are filled by people who care for us. But primarily, and most importantly, community is about action. The doing of life together in messy, nebulous times. In the grey areas of human life, community is the moral bedrock upon which we stand to proclaim “You have a place here, you belong, and you matter.”
While we collectively navigate the aftermath of DB3Three’s arrest, there are five people who have concrete, substantial, black and white needs: his beautiful children. Dalayna (14), Makenzie (12), Key'Siyah (12), MiRylah (11) and Karter (3) will have material needs that must be met as their family structures re-align around a harsh, daunting new reality. Critical support, and care, are how we show children they have a place of belonging, that safety and stability exist in times of chaos, and they, as sacred creations of the universe, matter more than the sum of their experiences. In times of deep uncertainty and fear, we must become the foothold of grace and love, allowing these most vulnerable to continue their journey of ascension. As models for how we can show up in our community, with the understanding that we are not defined by the mistakes of those we are dependent upon, we can create the culture that counters the one designed to fail them. When we create a reality for the children in our midst, we build the reality we all desire to live within.
All funds gathered here will directly support DB’s immediate family. As the primary source of income for their education, transportation, clothing, and activities that create joyful memories, this is a gap that must be filled. This is our opportunity to show children they are worthy of safety, they are worthy of love, and they are worthy of joy, no matter their circumstances.
