Leah Faith Corona July 8, 1969 – December 27, 2024
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.”
Leah lived her life in the moments that would have knocked most people to the ground, built by her experiences, she blossomed into the person that we all knew and loved. As with so many mothers, her beautiful moments flourished by the enjoyment brought to her in the lives of her children, who survive her in death: Jeremiah, Destini, Michael, Josiah, and Sara. However, her moments were not always the happy and smiling ones captured in a photograph, she was a warrior who stood in the face of fear more than once.
In 2011, she walked away from an almost fatal motorcycle accident with her late husband, Jesse “Superman” Corona, after months of fighting her life and her independence she walked out of the halls of the rehab a new woman. One who showed up everyday for herself and her family, one who relearned to walk and talk when the odds did not favor her, and one who never looked down. Leah was so many more things, an intelligent and charismatic woman who against all odds raised 5 semi normal children, all while studying and eventually becoming a registered nurse in 2004. A woman who dominated in the field of nursing with passion and love, embodying the characteristics of a true caretaker, Eventually accomplishing her long term goal of acquiring her masters degree becoming a Family Nurse practitioner in 2024.
Unfortunately, in 2017, she faced the loss of Abel Zermeno, the father of her four older children, just one year before the death of the love of her life, Jesse, to congestive heart failure in 2018. While her death was proceeded by the death of her brother, Joshua Joseph Ruiz in 2009, she is survived by her mother, father, and younger sister, Christiane “Bird” Ruiz.
However, she will live in the hearts of all her family so many of her club brothers and sisters of Sinland, her peers at Chamberlain University where she completed her Master’s, and by the many people whose lives were touched by her. If we listed everyone who she thought of as family we would be here all day.
Recently, she has pulled on all her strength and perseverance to face the biggest challenge of her life, a challenge that would ultimately take her life, breast cancer. In 2024, Leah was diagnosed with stage 2 triple negative breast cancer, with a 12% survival rate. After many rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, and medication, at 3:12am on December 27th, Leah lost her fight. In her final moments, she was surrounded by family and friends who loved her, listening to the stories from the people she touched and the moments she held.
Leah was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed. She touched the lives of so many and it is our turn to give back to her family in their time of need. In the wake of her death, we are reaching out to help aide her children as Leah was the primary provider of the home and her family is struggling with expenses associated with end of life . She leaves behind her 12 year old daughter Sara and any help would ease her transition.
Please help us remember her through the impact she left on our lives and the fond memories we share of her.
