To say we are at a loss for words is an understatement. For those who know Rob Simon, you know he’s the first to step up and lend a hand in times of need. Whether it’s organizing a fundraiser or rallying support for a community cause, Rob’s heart is always in the right place. He’s a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a passionate advocate for his community.
In early October, Rob sought medical care for what he thought was a kidney stone. Days later, imaging revealed a cancerous tumor the size of a grapefruit in his kidney. After further tests and consultations at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Rob underwent a full nephrectomy (complete removal of his kidney) on November 13. During surgery, surrounding lymph nodes were also removed due to the cancer’s spread.
Just days before this major operation, Rob was medically retired from the Torrington Police Department after 19 years of service and four shoulder surgeries stemming from injuries sustained on the job. Despite his recovery from surgery, pathology reports confirmed a rare and aggressive form of cancer: Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma.
Hopes for good news were dashed on December 9 when Rob learned that the cancer had metastasized to his spine, advancing to stage 3. As Rob faces this uphill battle, he will undergo extensive treatment and frequent trips to Boston, which will take a toll both physically and financially.
Rob had plans to grow his excavation business and start a new job to help offset the loss of income from his medical retirement, but these plans are now on hold. While his family and friends stand by him, the financial strain is immense.
Now it’s our turn to support Rob as he’s always supported others. Please consider donating to help him through this challenging time. Your generosity will provide much-needed relief for Rob, Jenn, and their two boys, Colton and Beckett. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference as he focuses on his recovery.
Let’s show Rob that he’s not alone in this fight. Together, we can help him get through this and look forward to the day he beats cancer for good.
FVCK CANCER! Thank you for your kindness and support.
