Stand by Sharon Benson: Loyal Teacher Needs Us

For those that don't know, my mom, Sharon Benson has been an educator for over 15 years, she's been in the school system 25 plus years. She's a staple in the community here in Sumter, SC. She's a God-fearing Christian woman, who doesn't curse, smoke, drink, let alone physically harm children. She volunteers, tutors, and goes above and beyond for her students. Last Monday a student was wheeled to her classroom by another teacher. The student was asleep and wouldn't wake up. You first have to ask yourself, why didn't the other teacher handle the situation? After verbally trying to wake the student up, she shook the child, the child didn't respond. So, she slapped the child on the cheek, in hopes of waking the student up. Totally Out of concern for the child. She was relieved of her duties, because of contact to the face by the district office. The child wasn't misbehaving, disrespectful, or anything. She didn't slap anybody's child to sleep like the article said. It wasn't even a response to a disciplinary action. Because of her actions, she lost her job and got arrested. Imagine getting locked up for your first time at age 70 and having to deactivate your Facebook page because of all the negative comments about the situation. This happened on a Monday, the Police department responded to a Emergency room incident on Thursday. 3 days later, come on? A complete push to sue the school district. People don't care how they attempt to get money, even if it damages somebody's reputation. The district office dropped the ball on this one and shows that giving somebody over 20 plus years means nothing. You can be dropped at a dime. Despite her loyalty and love for kids, she's left without a job. Because of all the requests to help her, a GoFundMe page was created to help substitute the income she's lost, and will continue to lose. Any amount would be appreciated.
