Stand Strong with Scott and Tim

Scott Green and Tim Lippert met in 1996 at a hike in Katterskill Falls in the Catskill Mountains of New York. They became friends and ultimately life partners. That partnership included establishing a painting and construction business and buying the old Crosby farmhouse with 115 acres and building an enterprise that now includes a garlic business, yaks, cattle and much more. Tim serves as the building inspector for the Town of Rensselaerville and as well as the City of Rensselaer. Scott and Tim found friends and a welcoming community in the small hamlet of Rensselaerville , NY where they are very active volunteers and board members for the Rensselaerville Library, Conkling Hall and other organizations. It’s been a great life of hard work, love and community.

Normalcy stopped three years ago with Scott’s toothache. Scott endured numerous extractions and infections that would not go away, and then was finally diagnosed with cancer of the upper maxillary (jaw) bone and right-sided orbital (eye) bones of the skull. After an arduous 12 hour surgery at Mount Sinai in NYC, many days in the ICU, a rebuilt upper maxilla, infections too numerous to count, debilitating radiation/chemotherapy and learning to live with the disfiguring vestiges of his treatment, they started to move on. But months later, the cancer returned and the process has started all over again. Their resilience is astounding as is Scott’s unending gratitude for continuing to live, to share a life with a dedicated and loving partner like Tim and for the Rensselaerville community that has stepped up to help care for the animals, drive Scott to appointments, donate gas cards and bear witness to their journey.

One of the questions that keeps surfacing in our small town is: “how can we help Scott and Tim?” Rides, food and friendship are still needed, but we want to do more. So on September 22, 2024 from noon to 4pm, we are holding a fundraiser at our beloved Conkling Hall for Scott and Tim to help defray the many expenses associated with Scott’s illness that are not covered by insurance. We will be collecting free will donations at the door and will serve a luncheon featuring Crosby Farm roast pig. There will be live local music, sweet chance auction of homemade desserts from Rensselaerville’s many excellent bakers and a video interview with Scott and Tim describing their medical journey and their gratitude for the medical professionals, friends and family that have helped make every day count.
