Stand With Alberto in His Fight Against Cancer

Dear friends, we are reaching out with heavy hearts to share some difficult news about our friend Alberto “Al” Gonzalez. After months of concern about what he thought was a pulled hamstring, Alberto was referred by his primary care doctor to an orthopedic specialist. The orthopedic specialist scheduled an MRI for him and with that referred him to physical therapy sessions. While doing some exercises with him his PT felt something that just wasn’t right. Alberto was referred back to his orthopedic specialist who ordered another MRI with contrast this time. Upon reviewing the results of this MRI, his orthopedic specialist advised him that he should see an orthopedic oncologist. Following this referral , It was then that Al received the devastating news where what he thought was a simple pulled hamstring, was actually a soft tissue sarcoma, a type of cancer that starts in the soft tissues of the leg and in his case, his thigh.
To know Alberto is to love him, and if you do, you’re pretty lucky to have him or have had him at some point in your life. As his friends, we can personally say that he is one of the kindest and most selfless men that we have ever met and have worked with. We can attest to his character, ethics and the love he has for his family. In his early years with JetBlue at HPN, he and his family resided in the Bronx. After a few years, Alberto and his beautiful wife, Lizette decided to move the family to Pennsylvania for a different quality of life and to raise their family there. Alberto would commute 3 to 4 times a week for over 2 1/2 hours each way in the “G Family” Toyota Camry (which he loved) sacrificing his time with his family for a better way of life. That was his dream and all he ever wanted for his family. He was always so proud to talk about the move they made and the home they built together.
While Alberto has tremendous support behind him, we also know he himself would never ask for help. He is a person who would do anything for those he loves and cares about. We ask as his friends, for us to all come together to support him during this challenging time. In the coming days, surgery, chemo, and radiation treatments will prove to be mentally and physically draining to him. As his friends, we want to make sure he can focus on his treatment without worrying about financial stress for his family.
Any support for this amazing family will help. Thank you for listening and for your prayers for this wonderful man and a friend to all of us. Our “Blue” friend for life
