Stand with Alex's Family After Jet Set Nightclub Disaster

At around 1 AM on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, the roof of a nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, collapsed at Jet Set. As of right now, the death toll is at 218 and many victims are missing. One of those missing is my cousin Alexander Manuel Mejia. He is a hardworking waiter who only works there once a week, and his main job is at a restaurant. This tragedy happened to occur on the one night that he worked there. It is important to note that this is no mere accident. The club is over 50 years old and the roof collapsed over greed to not spend money on repairing it. This is easily validated with light research online. The media is prioritizing finding politicians and celebrities. Despite our efforts, my family has been left scarred, traumatized, and broken as we try to find my cousin. I have read many stories on GoFundMe and I never thought in a million years I would have to do one. I am not sure how to convince anyone to donate but all I can do is speak to how devastating this has been to my family. We are a Christian, hardworking family that sticks together through the difficult times. I never would have thought anyone in my family would be in a tragedy to which the only way we can get updates is by checking social media and watching the news. Please help my family during this horrific time. My heart is broken and this is one of the few things that I am able to help my family with. Thank you

Any of the donations collected will be used for possible funeral/burial costs and travel expenses for his dad to be with our family during this difficult time.

**UPDATE** His body was recently recovered. The majority of donations will mainly go to his funeral expenses. Any remaining from the funeral expenses will be contributed to allowing my uncle, Hector Mejia, to spend more time with his remaining daughter and wife.

*The beneficiaries will be the Peña-Mejia Family. All donations will be sent to (my father and head of the household) Antonio Peña from me (via Zelle) who will then send the money to the Dominican Republic. Alex is his sister’s son.
