Stand with Amani in His Health Battle
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Deon Derrico, from the hit television show Doubling Down With The Derricos on TLC. Two years ago, my newfound nephew, Amani Barkley (the son of my deceased brother, Christopher Turner), found my mother GG, and myself. Immediately after meeting him, we conducted a DNA test and it was determined that Amani is my brother's child, a fact none of us, including my brother, knew. My family and I instantly fell in love with Amani and his family. We found out that when Amani was 14 years old, he was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis disease, which led to him needing a liver transplant at the age of 21.
After several years of doing well following that liver transplant, my nephew Amani, last year fell sick again and needed a new liver transplant as the previous one was starting to fail. About a month ago, on 06/02/2024, a liver came in and Amani was taken into the hospital for emergency surgery. After many hours of surgery, everything seemed to be well for Amani, but soon following the surgery, the doctors told my sister-in-law Stacey, (Amani's mother and primary caregiver) that unfortunately, Amani's liver was starting to deteriorate causing him to immediately be placed back on the donors list for another liver, only a week after the second liver transplant surgery. On or around 6/15/2024, the doctors performed what would now become Amani's 3rd and hopefully last liver transplant.
But now, because of so much stress being on Amani's body, there are other health challenges that he's been facing that resulted from the myriad of issues. Amani was forced to stop working last year in February, due to his health challenges and he's a new father of a one-year-old boy (my great-nephew) Adonis. Unfortunately, due to Amani's abrupt illness, all of his financial obligations for himself and Adonis, immediately became the responsibility of the family. His Grandma Alma, Aunts, older brother, GG, and myself, but primarily his Mother Stacey and her husband. Stacey, Amani's mother took on a second job, as a means of helping out but unfortunately, she's had to take a leave of absence from her second job, as his many medical procedures required her to be at the hospital which is about an hour drive from where she lives.
Between the mounting medical expenses coupled with Amani and Adonis' financial needs for housing, food, transportation, diapers, formula, etc., it has come to me asking for literally any financial donations that you can afford. We understand that there are financial burdens across this country and many homes are experiencing some form of difficulties so if you are on a fixed income, I'm asking for just $1 from each person that views this post! And if you're unable to afford that, we BEG you to please send the Barkley, Dickey Family your prayers as we are all faith-driven and PRAYER is powerful... Amen.
