Stand with Anchor Church in Their Time of Need
Donation protected
Hi! I am reaching out for some help for an amazing Church Community whose lease was wrongfully cancelled.
I used to own the gym next door to Anchor Church in Lawrence, KS who had been occupying 3 vacant suites in this commercial strip for almost 8 years. When we first opened our doors, things were a little rocky as we had to find a happy medium to run our workout sessions during their church services. This was a quick and easy fix as we moved one of our session times to an early slot and all we had to do was turn our music down for 20 minutes on Sunday during one of our sessions and one Wednesday a month. This was an agreement we had for almost 2 years and we’ve been nothing but great supportive neighbors helping each other out where we could.
I had to sell the business due to my soon to be born son having special needs and my need to focus on him. The club is now corporate owned and Anchor Church has been trying to work with them on the same agreement we had. The new owner has refused to cooperate. At least one of their employees have been rude to them refusing to turn down the music and threatened to call the police for trespassing. All they were asking was for the music to be turned down during their sermon. The music they now play is very explicit and not appropriate during a church service or even in young kids ears.
I was told by the owner of the building when I owned this gym, that I HAD to turn my music down. I had no issues with this as it was a respect thing. I know I would hate to hear loud music when attending my own church. The CEO of the company sent a bragging email to me saying “We got the Anchor Church’s lease cancelled because we don’t let them dictate how we run our business like the previous person did” meaning me! This absolutely broke my heart as I know the Preacher and his wife and they’ve been nothing but good to me when I was there and our members. After corporate took over, many of the members at the gym had their vehicles broken into. The church did their best to assist in anyway they could, even offering to walk with them to their vehicles if they were scared or follow them home because one of them had their garage door opener stolen and came home to their garage door open.
This church has been there for 8 years and recently spent lots of money renovating their building to just be kicked out because a male CEO of a Women’s Gym who seeks to empower women, doesn’t want to turn the explicit music down for 20 minutes a week.
Please help us raise money so they can find a new location, cover their deposit and relocate their whole entire congregation to a new building.
