We need your help!
On December 23 we got a phone call regarding our 9 year old daughter Charlize that no parent wants. It was her Pediatrician calling to let us know they are sending our girl to an Oncologist/Hematologist. They told us she has Leukopenia and is Neutropenic and has a chronic blood disorder that needs to be figured out.
Our daughter Charlize was born almost 8 weeks early and spent four weeks in the NICU, since then she has had ongoing medical issues. She has had surgery for hip dysphasia and has had her tonsils and adenoids removed. She has a heart murmur, obstructive sleep apnea and wears a Cpap machine at night. She has Acute Hypermobility syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease and unfortunately much more.
We are currently trying to figure out why her white blood cells are low, her neutrophil count is low, her lymphocytes are low and her red blood cells are enlarged. We are trying to figure out why she is always sick, fatigued, has joint pain, chronic stomach pains, bruises that just show up, and Petechiae and fevers. We did two months of weekly lab draws before they decided they had enough data and needs to be seen by the Oncologist/Hematologist.
She also has a medical condition which requires a very costly medical implant to be put in her every year until she is 13. This procedure has to be done in the Pediatric ICU. This implant has been a lifesaver for her. The downside is the implant cost is $5800 out of pocket for us every time. That’s with health insurance. Then we have the hospital PICU bill, doctors fees, anesthesiologists, etc. It all adds up and fast. We have 4 more implants we will have to pay for totaling $23,200 just for the medicine itself.
She currently sees four specialists, her Gastroenterologist, Endocrinologist, Pulmonologist and Rheumatologist along with constant visits with her Pediatrician. We work closely with all her doctors as we all try to figure things out to get her healthy. We have seen one Oncologist/Hematologists and will soon be seeing a second one for a second opinion to make sure we are making the correct decisions for Charlize.
With everything Charlize has been through and is going through she still smiles everyday. She laughs and sings and tries to find the positive in everything. She doesn’t understand why she is always sick. But she does understands the tests and lab draws and treatments we are doing will hopefully give us the answers we need to start getting her healthy.
We are hoping with the funds we raise we can finally start getting ahead of all of her medical bills including the $23,200 for her future implants. The next implant will be the beginning of June for $5800. Some future medical care also includes an endoscopy $2750, esophageal ph test $1350, bone marrow biopsy $2782, bone marrow aspiration $2248 and genetic testing for certain diseases $1500 and daily medicine $30-$60 a month. These costs do not include doctor fees, hospital fees, co-pays etc.
We would greatly appreciate your help and would appreciate any donations. Our deepest and most sincere gratitude to you all!
