Help Athena During A Medical Crisis

In trying to find the right words to tell you what an amazing human our friend Athena is, we thought we'd let you see for yourself how brave, tenacious and beautiful she is in her own words:

This is unbelievably difficult for me as asking for and accepting help is something I am uncomfortable with. Truly, I can’t begin to describe how hard this is. But this is where I am.

I had worked at the same job for 11 years. In February, I was informed via Zoom that my contract was not going to be renewed. This caught me completely off guard. I am currently uninsured and injuries are preventing me from finding employment; I can't afford the physical therapy needed to heal to take the next step. The bills began adding up, and then came an eviction notice…The weight of it became too much - physically and mentally. My illness became overwhelming and I am sitting in a very dark place.

I know there are people who love me and have friends working to help me. They are, in fact, helping me write this.

It’s important to me that you know I want to get back on my feet. And I am working to do that. To be able to stand in confidence and to rediscover my joy. I also acknowledge that that is a long journey ahead and as I take the next steps, I humbly ask for your help. Your donations will go toward helping me pay off and navigate my medical debt and finding doctors who can address both my physical and mental needs going forward, as well as my very basic needs. Then I can take the next steps to finding work and regaining my independence.
