My name is Julie, and I am reaching out on behalf of one of my purest friends, Carmen Guerrero. Carmen is one of the most caring, energetic, and resilient people I have ever known. She tirelessly shows up for her community and communities around the world. Now, Carmen is facing significant challenges, and I am asking for your help to support her during this difficult time.

Carmen's Story

Carmen is 56 years old and of Indigenous Mayan and Aztecan descent. In addition to being a wonderful friend and community member, Carmen is also a passionate activist. Every week, she goes to the intersection of Dekalb Pike and Henderson Road in King of Prussia to protest for a free Palestine. Her dedication to this cause reflects her unwavering commitment to justice and equality for all.

Recent Incidents

On July 3rd, 2024, Carmen was assaulted while protesting. Two men confronted her at the intersection. One man exited his vehicle with a pair of scissors and cut up all of Carmen's banners and signs. The other man was waving an Israeli flag and shoved Carmen into a pole, causing her to fall to the ground. Carmen was taken by ambulance from the scene to Paoli Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion. This traumatic incident has not only caused her emotional distress but also added to her financial burden as she now needs to cover medical expenses.

This is not the first time Carmen has faced danger while standing up for her beliefs. On April 20th, 2024, at the same corner, Carmen was mugged. Her bag was stolen, including her keys, phone, cash, and debit card. These repeated attacks have been incredibly distressing and have created significant financial hardships.

Legal Support

Carmen is currently working with CAIR's legal team to pursue justice and hold her assailants accountable for their actions. While CAIR is providing invaluable support, there are still significant legal expenses that Carmen needs to cover to ensure she receives the justice she deserves.

Why We Need Your Help

The costs associated with the recent assault and her ongoing activism are overwhelming. Without health insurance, Carmen is solely responsible for covering all medical expenses out of pocket. In addition, legal fees for pursuing justice are substantial. From medical bills and necessary medications to legal costs and the cost of replacing her advocacy materials, the financial burden is immense. Carmen has always been independent and hardworking, but this situation has left her needing support from her community.
