Stand with Chris McDermott in Crisis

Dear family, friends, and future friends,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a sense of desperation. My name is Chris, and I am in an incredibly challenging situation I never thought I'd face again. I am on the precipice of losing everything including an eviction and a repossession.

In January, my contract ended early when my project was postponed indefinitely. I’ve been getting by on savings, but that has run out. My rent is due in a week and my car payment is due a week later. Despite my best efforts to secure new employment and an encouraging number of interviews, I have not secured a new job. I could only recently file for unemployment because I had an open claim in Florida with no money remaining and currently live in Maryland.

The thought of becoming homeless in a new state and losing my only way to get anywhere to improve my situation is terrifying and overwhelming. I am in Maryland because I was laid off in April last year and couldn’t find work for 6 months, so I moved here for better job prospects. I was about to be evicted, so I surrendered the apartment and moved in with two of my oldest and dearest friends. That arrangement is no longer available (for a very positive reason).

It's not just a matter of finding a new place to live; it's about losing stability, security, and a sense of belonging.
