Dr. Hoau-Yan Wang is a Taiwanese American scientist and has dedicated his career in Neuroscience to curing age-related dementia. He published the original paper showing the link of the binding of AB42 to the a7 receptor in 1999. He invented a drug called simufilam that is currently in Phase 3 trials for Alzheimer's disease. He has been under attack by short sellers of the public company, Cassava Sciences, that is executing the Phase 3 trials. The people attacking him were not only benefiting from dropping the stock of Cassava Sciences, they were from Johnson and Johnson and in the process of starting a company called Rapport Therapeutics. Rapport Therapeutics just went public under the symbol RAPP. Dr. David Bredt was the former head of Neurological Drug discovery at Janssen (a Johnson and Johnson company). They had looked at a joint venture or investment in Cassava Sciences. He spearheaded the attack on Dr. Wang.
Many of the patients that are in the Phase 3 trials rave about the positive effects of the medication. The Phase 3 trial finishes in October of this year. The drug is safe and has no drug related side effects (unlike the Lilly and Biogen drugs with brain bleeds). It has passed two drug safety board reviews. The families in the trials talk about how their mother was inflicted by Alzheimer's disease. She had lost her sweet personality but was not angry and short. After taking the drug, she came back from the disease. 3.5 years later she is on the medicine and still better than she was when she started. This is absolutely unheard of in Alzheimer's disease. Many other families have talked about the remarkable turnaround of their mothers, fathers, friends, and grandparents.
Clinical Trial site coordinators also rave about the drug having a more positive effect on patients than any other major drug that has been tried on Alzheimer's. They have experience with all of them including the ones that have been recently approved.
I have gotten to know Dr. Wang because I am a 2xAPOE4 carrier like Chris Hemsworth (google "chris hemsworth alzheimer’s" and you will see why I say that). I have a family history of Alzheimer's, so I have researched, donated, and invested in companies pursuing cures or tests. My impression of Dr. Wang is that he is a brilliant and humble scientist at a small university. He has worked 80 hours a week for decades with little resources to study the disease. I also invested in the stock of the company that his drug is in phase 3 trials for. The stock (stock symbol SAVA) is heavily under attack by short sellers. I side with Dr. Wang, Cassava, and most importantly the patients that are being helped by the drug.
It is important to note that the FDA declined the Citizens Petition that David Bredt submitted to the FDA (oddly omitting the fact that he was short the stock and a competitor). It is also important to note that short sellers are likely to comment with horrible misinformation in the comments. They have posted 100,000+ messages across the internet.
Dr. Wang is a professor at CUNY. His wife is a teacher. They are not from big pharma. Dr. Wang is the very unlikely source of the largest breakthrough in one of the most widespread, maddening, and elusive diseases of our time. This is where the reason for the Go Fund Me page...
Now we get to the reason behind this go fund me. The short seller and competitor accusations were submitted to every agency that could possibly slow Dr. Wang down. One of them landed in the DOJ.
After a 3 year investigations, Dr. Wang was just indicted by the Department of Justice after an investigation by the FBI Washington Field Office. I am heavily skeptical of this investigation that was spurred from an accusation from short selling competitor from big pharma. They did this as the Phase 3 trial is finishing up in just 3 months!!! They have been pressuring the FDA to stop the trials since before they started. Why would they do that for a drug that has no side effects for a terminal disease that has no cure?
For Alzheimer's disease patients and families around the world, we need to make sure Dr. Wang gets the best defense possible. It is the only case I have found that "research misconduct" has resulted in an indictment of a researcher. The indictment is mainly around vague accusations of image issues on old papers by Dr. Wang in his submission for grants from the NIH.
The fund will be used to make sure that Dr. Wang is able to get a great legal defense. This fund will to help Dr. Wang and his family mount a proper legal defense against these charges. Please help however you can.
