Stand with Grandma Dorothy, Alta Dena’s Heart

Donation protected
My name is Jameelah Lee, and I am writing on behalf of my beloved grandmother, Dorothy Lee. Recently, our family faced an unimaginable tragedy when my grandmother lost her home and all of her cherished possessions in the Eaton Canyon fires. In the wake of this heart wrenching loss, my family and I felt inspired to create this GoFundMe page. While no amount of money can replace the countless memories that were created in her home, our deepest hope is that this effort will offer her some much needed relief and support during this devastating time.

Let me tell you a bit about my grandmother. Dorothy Lee is a charismatic, lively, and vivacious woman who has been a pillar of strength and positivity in the Pasadena and Alta Dena communities for over 50 years. As a hairstylist by trade, and still active to this day, she has brought joy, confidence, and a welcoming smile to countless individuals who have had the pleasure of sitting in her chair.
Outside of the salon, Grandma Dorothy's generosity and spirit continue to shine as she plays an active role in her community. She has touched so many lives with her kindness and dedication, making it particularly difficult to see her go through such a profound loss. Her resilience inspires us to come together to support her during this challenging time.

My heart aches not only for the childhood memories lost in the fire but also for Grandma Dorothy’s entire life, which was in that house. As a collector, she had items dating back to the 1800s and earlier. I cherish the memories of sitting in her living room, surrounded by the rich history at her fingertips. Beyond her collectibles and knickknacks, all her pictures, family tree, and obituaries were lost. Unaware of what was to come, on the night she was evacuated, she left with only a blanket, a pillow, and the clothes on her back. Even now, she continues to recount that night and how quickly everything unfolded.

Like many of our grandparents, Grandma Dorothy lives on a fixed income, and to make matters more grievous, she doesn’t have insurance. Recently widowed, she continues to work tirelessly, proudly affirming she’ll never retire, a trait I've always admired in her. Yet, I know how challenging it is to rebuild and how the added stress might affect her. I deeply believe these should be her years of rest and reflection, especially after all she’s given to her family and community. Truthfully, Grandma Dorothy would never ask for help, as she’s always been the one aiding others and isn’t accustomed to seeking assistance. She has always been a giver, even when she had little to give. She always found a way, opening her home to everyone. Her home was a safe haven, a revolving door of kindness, never wanting anything in return. These are the individuals we must protect at all costs. With humility, I ask for support on her behalf, hoping we can all rally around Grandma Dorothy during these difficult times and show her just how much she means to us all.

Your generosity could provide a foundation for her to begin rebuilding her life, and we are profoundly grateful for any assistance you feel moved to give. Thank you for standing with us and helping to bring healing and hope back into Grandma Dorothy’s life.
