Help Rebuild the Heart of Galveston: Support Huli Huli Hut!
Hi, my name is Bert Dagnon, and I’m a proud local business owner here on the island. Today, I woke up to heartbreaking news—our beloved Huli Huli Hut suffered a devastating fire last night. The damage is severe, and the restaurant will likely be closed for a significant amount of time. This is the second fire at this location in just a few months, and my heart aches for the owners, Courtney and Adam Lee.
Anyone who has ever stepped foot in The Hut knows it’s so much more than just a place to eat. Yes, the food is amazing—an easy 9 out of 10—but the atmosphere? That’s an 11. It’s a place that embodies everything that makes Galveston special: history, character, and a touch of quirky charm. It’s where stories are made, where laughter fills the air, and where visitors leave with memories that last a lifetime.
As a fellow business owner who personally experienced a fire at my own establishment just last June, I understand the overwhelming pain and uncertainty that comes in its aftermath. It’s a gut punch to the soul. You stand in the ashes, wondering if you have the strength to rebuild. And right now, I know Courtney and Adam are feeling that weight—stunned, heartbroken, and unsure of what the next days and months will bring.
But here’s what I also know: Galveston is resilient.
Our island family has always lifted each other up in times of need, and today, we have the chance to do just that. Courtney and Adam have given so much to this community—they’ve been there for our birthday celebrations, wedding parties, first dates, and nights out with friends. Now, it’s our turn to be there for them.
I started this GoFundMe because Huli Huli Hut is more than just a restaurant—it’s a part of the fabric of Galveston. And today, that fabric is torn. But together, we can help mend it.
Let’s show Courtney and Adam that they are not alone. Let’s remind them that Galvestonians stand together. If you, like me, have ever laughed, toasted, or simply felt at home at Huli Huli Hut, I ask you to give what you can. No amount is too small—every dollar is a message of love, strength, and support.
Galveston is built on resilience. Let’s help Courtney and Adam rebuild.
Funds will be used to help the owners rebuild and reopen this wonderful Galveston restaurant and to help the employees while the business is closed.
Donate today, share this fundraiser, and let’s bring Huli Huli Hut back, stronger than ever!
Huli Huli Hut in Galveston heavily damaged from fire
At about 11:45 PM (2/14/2025) the Galveston Fire Department responded to a fire at Huli Huli Hut located at 312 19th Street.
While the exterior of the building looked mostly undamaged, the inside suffered heavy fire damage.
The location was believed to be closed, however occupied by employees at the time of the fire, and all occupants escaped the blaze before firefighters arrived on scene.
Firefighters used an aggressive attack to bring the main fire down quickly, before working on any hot spots or remaining flames.
One firefighter was transported from the scene by EMS for smoke inhalation, however was expected to recover quickly.
Neighboring buildings to the Huli Huli Hut were not effected by the blaze.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation after 1:00 AM.
