Update: It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Jeff passed away last night, November 3. Jeff fought all the way to the end. It is more important than ever to support the Rivera Family as they navigate the future without Jeff.

In 2023 Sgt. Jeff Rivera of the Atlantic City Police Department was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer which unfortunately has metastasized to other areas of his body. Since receiving this terrifying diagnosis, Jeff has gone through every treatment that is available.

As medical options become limited Jeff continues to fight to have more time with his family, everyday he fights for them.

For those that know Jeff, know he’s a completely selfless person who defines the term family oriented, something he’s exhibited it his entire life. A lifelong Atlantic City resident, Jeff began working at Chester’s Flowers in the city at a young age. This is where he met his beloved wife Lisbet before becoming a Police Officer. He is and has always been the sole supporter for his wife, daughters Emily (age 24) and Erika (age 16) and sons Jefferson Jr. (age 12) and Eric (age 9). Jeff was the primary father figure and biggest champion of his younger brother Eric Rivera. Eric was enlisted in the police academy but was deployed for a second tour to Iraq for operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006. While his fellow troops were pinned down by enemy fire, Eric volunteered to help get them out but was killed by an enemy sniper.

Just like his brother, Jeff has always put the needs, happiness and safety of others before himself. Throughout his life, he has demonstrated devotion at every crossroad, devotion to his family, his friends and to the general public. This has been a long, arduous road for the Rivera family and they are in need of our friendship and support now more than ever. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, love, prayers, and generosity during this challenging time.
