Stand with Jennifer against Cancer
It is with great difficulty that I share with you that my daughter, Jennifer McGuigan, has been diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer.
I am Sharon Morsdorf, last week, My Husband Bob and I heard the words that any parents would fear, your daughter has cancer. The “c” word is a nightmare that I wish I could wake up from but here I am reaching out to you to ask for your support.
Jennifer is only 42 years old and an amazing single Mother to her beautiful 9-year-old daughter, Aislynn. They live in Holly Springs, NC. Jennifer is a registered Vet Tech at a local animal hospital. She absolutely LOVES her job taking care of animals, however, as rewarding as it is personal to be in this line of work, it is not near as rewarding financially and She will miss several weeks of work due to her upcoming procedures. Jennifer’s health insurance has a large deductible of seven thousand dollars as well as a 20% coinsurance, being a single Mother as well as requiring a great deal of medical treatments, Jennifer will greatly benefit from this fundraiser. We are asking for those of you who are able and willing; please donate to stand in Jennifer’s corner against cancer to help cover her unexpected medical expenses.
On April 18th, Jennifer went in for a routine checkup with her GYN doctor, during an Ultrasound, they noticed something suspicious in the right lower quadrant of her abdomen. The doctor requested she get a CT scan immediately. The scan revealed a mucous mass on her appendix, free fluid in the abdomen, and diverticulosis.
On May 14th Jennifer underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy to remove the mass and appendix, which led to her diagnosis of Low Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm, a rare form of cancer. This mucin-secreting tumor caused tumor cells to spread into Jennifer’s abdomen cavity. Jennifer is scheduled to visit an Oncology Surgery doctor at UNC, that specializes in Low Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm, on May 22.
Jennifer will undergo numerous blood tests, including a cancer screen, a repeat CT scan, and a colonoscopy. Further treatment may require a total hysterectomy, followed by an internal, localized chemotherapy lavage known as Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) that involves filling the abdominal cavity with heated liquid chemotherapy.
Jennifer’s Father and I reside in CNY. It is excruciating being at such a distance during this very challenging time. We will be traveling to NC as much as possible to assist Jennifer in caring for Aislynn as well as with recovery.
We greatly appreciate your support.
