Stand with Kayla Frank
Donation protected
Kayla Frank has been a friend to many of us but most of all to the homeless animals of Johnson County, Missouri, and surrounding areas, as director of Old Drum Animal Shelter since its reopening after being saved from shuttering not quite two years ago. She has fought tirelessly to save thousands of animals from terrible fates. Our community not only knows her name; we see her. We hear her. We NEED her.
The boardmembers of Warrensburg Animal Rescue, however, would have you believing otherwise if you were to witness how she’s been persecuted over the last several months. Mason Wirsig, the former President of WAR, had made it his mission to settle a personal score and today he accomplished what he set out to do, along with the help of Julie Newton, Miranda Cameron, Annie McCoy and another boardmember just voted in yesterday. Boardmembers arrived at the shelter, sheriff’s deputy in tow, to give Kayla two options: resign or be fired with trespassing charges to follow. Accusations were made that were not only not elaborated upon but are furthermore completely baseless, and there is absolutely no forthcoming explanation to the public who so fervently supports her. It is very unbecoming behavior of individuals who reign over an organization that only maintained its wide support base because of the work of the director they worked so diligently to eliminate and who receives support in the way of our tax dollars, but that’s a fight for another time and place.
The worst about this entire situation is not just animals will suffer because of the loss of support and because this action was undertaken with absolutely no one in line to replace her. No, Kayla and her family will also suffer because this effort was so much more than just the product of an orchestrated campaign by a few to tarnish a good name. This was Kayla’s livelihood. She is a single mom of three kids. She is suddenly jobless with bills to pay and children and animals to feed.
Kayla is too proud to ask for a single dime but those of us who love her know she needs the support of this community now more than ever. Let’s show her the same kindness she’s always shown us and our furry friends. Any contributions will go directly to Kayla so that she can make ends meet while seeking other employment, seek out legal representation if needed, and support her family. Thank you so much for your consideration.
