Stand with LGBTQ Land Defenders in Peru

This is a call for the international community who believes in LGBTQ liberation, indigenous sovereignty, and standing with land defenders against transnational resource extraction! Moshikas Diversas is an organized community of LGBTQI+ people in the Lambayeque region of northern Peru who have been building together in resistance against transnational mining and resource extraction companies.

 

We need to raise $4850 by Friday, September 24th to fully finance the safe participation of 20 gender diverse womxn defenders and leaders at the Macro-Regional Communitarian Feminisms Meeting (Sep 24th) and at the National Congress of Peasant Communities of Peru Affected by Mining and Hydrocarbons (Sep 25th - 26th). Both events are taking place in Lima, 13 hours to the south, in less than one week!

 

My name is Hannah and I'm a queer person based in the United States, raising this money with my dear friend Alezz, based in Lima, the capital of Peru. Alezz is a talented drag king performer who was working with LGBTQ youth in Lima in 2019 when they met members of Moshikas Diversas (including their girlfriend Liz ). A long talk deep into the night kindled both their love and a commitment of using arts and relationships to redistribute money and resources from Lima towards the powerful work of Moshikas Diversas!

 

Solidarity and resource redistribution must cross borders- help us redistribute some money from the global north directly into building power with queer organizers defending land in the global south!

 

These conferences are taking place in one week and representatives from Moshikas Diversas must be there to have representation, voice, and vote, especially in Peru's new political and covid-19 context. We are reaching out to the international community and exhausting all of our resources and contacts. Help us raise $4850 for roundtrip tickets, COVID safety kits, COVID tests, local transportation, food, housing, and training resources for 20 representatives.
