Support Shamika Caldwell and Her Children After Tragic Loss
Los Angeles, CA – The family of Markus Dion Caldwell, a beloved father, husband, and foundational community member who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident on December 6, 2024, is seeking support to help his widow, Shamika Caldwell, care for their two young children during this devastating time. As they face the heartbreaking loss of Markus, the family is asking for the community’s help to bring comfort and stability to Shamika and her children, Madison (age 9) and Markus Jr. (age 12), especially during the holiday season.
Markus was more than a devoted husband and father—he was a cornerstone of his family and community, known for his warmth, generosity, and dedication. His sudden and tragic loss has left Shamika to navigate unimaginable challenges as she raises their children alone. Funds raised will go directly to Shamika to support her family’s immediate needs, including covering living expenses, birthday celebrations for Madison (December 19th) and Markus Jr. (December 23rd), and ensuring the children have a joyful holiday season despite their loss.
How You Can Help: The family has set up a donation fund to directly assist Shamika as she shoulders the financial and emotional responsibility of caring for her children. Contributions will provide immediate relief and help the family regain stability during this difficult time.

About Markus Dion Caldwell: Markus was the cornerstone of his family—a loving husband of 9 years to his childhood friend, Shamika Caldwell, and a devoted father to Madison (9 years old) and Markus Jr. (12 years old). Both children face upcoming birthdays this month: Madison will turn 10 on December 19th, and Markus Jr. will turn 14 on December 23rd.
An award-winning Maintenance Technician and Supervisor, Markus was respected in his profession and had recently joined a Residential Apartment Community in Canoga Park. He took immense pride in being able to provide for his family using his hands—building, fixing, and crafting—a skill that defined both his work and his character. Known for his love of hip-hop music, his unwavering support of the Los Angeles Clippers and the Dallas Cowboys, Markus was deeply proud of his heritage as the grandson of a WWII Tuskegee Airman and of his niece, who is set to graduate from USC this fall.
Markus’s loss has left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones and the community. As the investigation into the hit-and-run incident continues, the family is relying on the support of friends, neighbors, and caring individuals to help Shamika and her children during this challenging time.
Let’s Stand With Shamika: This holiday season, let’s come together to honor Markus’s legacy by supporting Shamika and her family. Your generosity will help ensure they have the resources to navigate the road ahead and provide for Madison and Markus Jr. as they grow.
