Support David Newman’s family- Sudden Loss & Grief
Donation protected
Many of you have heard and felt the unexpected passing of David Newman (Durga Das), a deeply revered member of our global Yoga and Sacred Music community.
David was a cherished luminary, touching hearts far and wide with his devotional music, profound teachings, kindness, laughter, and boundless love.
This past March, David had a sudden incident at home that called for medical attention. Within 24 hours, inoperable brain cancer (4th grade glioblastoma) was revealed and David’s life journey, at only 60 years old, had taken a radical change.
While David explored various possible paths of recovery, he realized it was his time to journey onward. Just 5 weeks later, on April 18th, with family by his side, David gently slid into the arms of the Beloved (days prior to his daughter’s 13th birthday.)
His departure has left a palpable void in the hearts of his family and devoted followers and admirers worldwide. While his teachings live on through his music, his writings, and the countless lives he had touched, we can’t help but think of the two he held most dear to him, Mira and their daughter, Tulsi.
As friends and family, we are rallying together to offer our support and assistance. While we cannot ease the pain of their loss, we can alleviate some of the financial burdens they now unexpectedly face.
David and Mira shared a 30 year friendship and 20 year partnership grounded in love, devotion, shared values, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they navigated the complexities of life with grace and resilience. For decades they traveled the globe, giving us countless experiences of heart-opening kirtan concerts, devotional workshops, and musical recordings. They were true examples of Living Love.
During David's final weeks, Mira was by his side around the clock as his caretaker and a pillar of love and strength. She stepped away from her jobs to care for her beloved. The reach and fulfillment of this campaign are an opportunity for Mira and Tulsi to receive the finances to stabilize their new foundation while doing their best to move forward in the wake of this unexpected tragedy.
Through this GoFundMe, we have the opportunity to ensure that they are upheld by the same spirit of generosity and compassion that defined David's life and legacy.
This is a testament to the power of empathy, community, and connection—a reminder that they are not alone as they navigate this journey of loss and remembrance.
Grief comes in and makes a permanent stamp. It is weighty, weird, and wildly consuming. We would like to give Mira and Tulsi the ample time and space to be able to reconstruct their lives with love and loss.
Your support, whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser with others, is deeply appreciated.
No donation is too small, and every contribution will directly support Mira and Tulsi.
As David sings in his song, "we are like stars, stars in the sky... the darker this night, the brighter we will shine." Let us show these two beautiful souls how much Light and support is available to them.
