Stand with NYC: Help the Homeless Now to Prevent Tragedies

My name is David. I am currently a high schooler doing a civic seal project tackling the most common problems in Queens and NYC. We've all been on the subways at some point in or lives, with all of us seeing at least a few homeless people sitting by. Many of us turn a blind eye, but no one should have to live this way. Homelessness is not a crime, yet they're stepped on by society and mistreated. No one stops to actually consider that these people need our help. The fact that we don't understand that, and show no compassion, is what leads to negative outcomes for those experiencing homelessness. Many are on the edge of starvation and suffering from mental health issues. Everything is connected, and we must do something about it.

Which is why I have decided to start a GoFundMe for The Bowery Mission, as they are one of the largest nonprofits for homelessness in NYC. If anyone can make a difference, it's them. By raising money to support the homeless, you're helping the cause to find shelter and the help homeless people need in NYC.

This is not just an issue of homelessness, but also an issue of public health and safety, for those who are homeless and those who share the same public spaces. We're all human, and if we see others in their darkest moments, we should do our very best to help. It is the society, and the conditions that they live in that forge them into what they are.
