Stand with Sonia Reed against Racism

Please support this fundraiser for Sonia Reed, who has been driven from her home due to racist harassment and violent threats!

Sonia found her first home ever in the hills of San Leandro and was very excited to be a homeowner for the first time as she was formerly homeless. Also as a peer support and recovery specialist and Narcotics Anonymous volunteer she is used to helping others and now she is in need of help herself.

Upon coming to visit her new home she was immediately met with racist slurs and hate from the neighbors. After these verbal attacks she then found her house spray painted with "NO BLACKS" on her front fence that she was hoping to paint as her quintessential "white picket fence" as a welcoming sight for her new home.

She does not feel safe nor welcome in the neighborhood living there as a single woman of color with two grandchildren and unfortunately does not want to stay in her new home. It took everything she had to buy this home and fix it up so she could move in. It will now be a costly process for her to turn around and sell the home that she had planned to move into. We are fundraising for Sonia so that she is not punished for having to find another home just because of the terrible situation she encountered after buying her first home. Everyone deserves the chance to follow their dream and live in peace. Sonia will be moving on to find a new home where she and her grandchildren can live and be free of prejudice and hate.
