Stand with Stephanie in Her Cancer Journey

my name is Rylee Payton and I am here on behalf of my mother, Stephanie Rubio. To say our world was flipped upside down on November 11 would be an understatement, to say the least. That is the day we found out my mom had cancer. A call no daughter, no matter how old, ever wants to receive. My mom, the most loving, loyal, feistiest, bravest woman in the world, was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, breast cancer. Our family is very blessed that it was detected early and caught as stage one, but the road to recovery is not going to be short or easy.
Working as a nurse, I knew the physical and mental struggle cancer patients face, but sadly, until it personally affected me, I never fully grasped the financial burdens humans face while also literally fighting for their life. My mom is the most giving human in the world and consistently goes above and beyond for everyone else in her life.
As a testament to my mom’s character, her biggest worry is that my Dad will have to put his work with United Community Addiction Network (UCAN) on hold. As a family they had decided for her to have a more “traditional” job so we would have more flexibility to build his nonprofit organization and help as many individuals and families as he can. My parents mission remains the same and she does not want to hinder the lives they touch by taking my Dad away from their purpose while navigating this uncharted season.
She is not a person who would ever ask for help, not even in a situation such as this. It would mean the world if her friends and family could come together and support her in prayer and also ease some of the financial hardships that are coming for the fight of her life, and allowing UCAN to continue saving as many lives and families as possible.
My mom is strong in her faith, and being included on every prayer chain, board, and group will bring her so much comfort in these next coming months as the road gets tough.
