Stand with Us: Daniel's Cancer Journey

Donation protected
It doesn't even feel real to be writing these words, asking for the help that we are, and what the last 7 days have entailed for us.

My husband, Daniel, has cancer. Our story is becoming one for the books. We have been married for 16 months total. Within these 16 months we have purchased our first home, had that home hit by a tornado within our first month of owning it, and were displaced for 5 months while our home was fixed. We had just moved back into our house in late November and we are so grateful now looking back that we had a peaceful Christmas season in our home. We were making plans to continue to recover our home from the damage of the tornado and create our dream backyard during 2025. We were talking about starting to try and have kids in 2025. All of the joy and hope we had for 2025 has instead come with a devastating blow - Cancer.

One week ago we went to the doctor for Daniel vomiting. What we have learned in this short amount of time is that his cancer began in his right testicle and has spread to other parts of his body.

We know that we are essentially in a two part fight.

The first part is happening very quickly. Daniel is having removal surgery as I write this and will be in recovery from that surgery for about 1 week - 10 days per his doctor.

Yesterday, on the same day we found out he officially had cancer, we also learned his insurance will not cover his surgery. We frantically figured out the bare minimum the hospital needs from us in order for him to receive his life saving surgery and we are trusting the rest will be figured out.

Getting a cancer diagnosis at 37 is scary enough, learning the insurance company that is meant to be for a circumstance like this isn't going to help, is devastating, but alas not surprising given our health insurance industry.

The second part of his fight will be learning exactly what type of testicular cancer he has, where in its entirety it has spread, and the best treatment option for him. This we know will be the longer battle, and the one that will matter most.

We have so much unknown right now. It is not lost on me that just 7 months ago we were here, on GoFundMe, asking for help because a Tornado hit our house. It's unfathomable what we are called to endure right now after just walking through a traumatic event, but we will rise to the occasion and fight for one another and our future together.

We need help financially, more than we ever have before. I am gutted to ask for more help, I am gutted for the helplessness I feel for my husband, and I am gutted for what the road ahead will be.

If you can donate anything, we would be so grateful. If you have medical knowledge and have journeyed through cancer before - we value your insight. If you pray, please beg God for healing for my husband. Please beg Him for our future together. Please beg Him for help for us, because we need it.

Thank you seems so small, but it is all I have right now.

With Love and Hope,
Elizabeth Liuzzo
