Franklin County, Arkansas, is more than just a place on the map—it's our home. This small, close-knit community in the River Valley has been the heart of our lives for generations. We cherish our peaceful, rural lifestyle, which defines our way of life. But now, our rights and our way of life are under threat from a decision made in secrecy.

Without warning or public input, the state has purchased land and plans to build the largest prison in Arkansas—a massive 3,000-bed facility—right in the heart of our county. This decision was made behind closed doors, without any consultation with local officials or public meetings. The chosen site for this prison is alarmingly close to family homes, schools, and areas where our children play. It’s also far too small for such a massive facility, posing serious risks to safety, infrastructure, and the environment.

Why We Need Your Help

Our struggle isn’t just about Franklin County; it’s about every rural community across America. If such a significant project can be imposed on us without due process or consideration for the impact on our lives, it sets a dangerous precedent for every community in the country. We believe that every community deserves a voice in the decisions that affect their homes, their families, and their future.

The financial impact of this prison will be felt statewide. The estimated cost for construction, infrastructure, and daily operations may exceed $1 billion. When this project inevitably goes over budget, the financial strain will affect every taxpayer in Arkansas, while Franklin County’s own resources will be severely depleted, leaving our community to endure the negative consequences.

The Franklin County & River Valley Coalition Against the Prison is dedicated to halting this injustice. We are committed to challenging this decision through every available legal, legislative, and political avenue. We’ve already engaged with legal counsel, but we need your help to continue.
