Stand with Windham Healthcare Workers on #Strike for Safe Patient Care

After calling the allied health professionals of Windham Community Memorial Hospital (WCMH) "heroes," Hartford HealthCare (HHC) has resisted our fair contract proposals and allowed management to violate our rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). We've filed Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges calling out their intimidation and threatening of skilled service employees for union activity. Like our nursing colleagues, we're taking a stand for what we need in these negotiations to resolve our region’s patient care crisis.

We have given legal notice that a strike will happen on October 24 if a settlement is not reached. Members out on strike often experience an immediate financial strain. As a result, we are accepting donations to the WCMH Employees United Hardship Fund to support members in need. A committee has been formed to review applications and authorize distribution of funds not to exceed $250 per member, per distribution.

While we are grateful for the support of our community and that of our brothers and sisters in labor, we will not accept any financial support from employers, employer-side labor relations experts, advisers, or consultants, nor will we accept any contributions from anyone who is an agent of an employer or who is acting in the interest of an employer. Contributions from such individuals should not be made through this platform and will not be accepted if they are. Donations to the Hardship Fund are not tax deductible.

Any excess funds received will be used to support future hardships of members in good standing with AFT Connecticut-affiliated local unions.
