Five years ago Anastasie was diagnosed with a Grade Three Anaplastic Astrocytoma brain tumour. Since then, her friends and family have observed indescribable strength of both mind and body as she underwent two craniotomies, radiation and chemotherapy. Despite fighting hard, her tumour seems to be resistant to these treatments.
All further resourses in Manitoba have been exhausted, and another craniotomy would leave her completely paralyzed. She was referred to a neurosurgeon in Vancouver, specializing in a Winnipeg developed technology called NeuroBlate. This surgery can reduce tumour size, allow time to explore other treatements and has minimal risk of further damage. Anastasie is a perfect candidate for this procedure.
Due to bureaucratic reasons, a hold has been placed on the NeuroBlate program in B.C. Anastasie’s only option is to have the surgery in Cleveland, Ohio. Financial support, through Manitoba Health, is a potential option but approval takes time and there is a great urgency due to the aggressive nature of this tumour. It is because of this uncertainty that we are asking for your help in raising funds for surgery, as well as living expenses during treatment and recovery.
Asking for help was not an easy choice. We certainly do not want anyone to feel obligated. But as many of us know all too well, cancer is a cruel disease. Anastasie continues to move through this with resilience, fortitude and humour. With all the odds stacked against her, Anastasie displays an ocean of courage, optimism and to use her words “joie de vivre.”
We all wish for Anastasie, the quality of life she deserves with her husband, Phil. Your assistance shows support and decreases the additional stresses of this disease.
We thank all of you for the love and support shown as we "Stand By Zie".
