Standing in the Gap with Jarrod and Emily
Donation protected
Jarrod and Emily Egley could use our help. Many of you have known them for years, and been part of Jarrod's journey with cancer for the past seven years. We've been waiting for a time when we'd be called upon to offer a bit of help and hope - that time is now.
Jarrod has been in and out of the hospital over dozen times in 2023, and has now entered hospice care at home. As the end of Jarrod's earthly life draws near, they could use some help with overnight nursing care so that Emily can get some much-needed sleep. They also have some unexpected medical bills which they are in the process of trying to resolve. A cushion of cash could offer great peace of mind right now.
Jarrod and Emily have built an incredible village of friends around them over the years, and we now have an opportunity to show our love and care by "standing in the gap" to help cover these expenses. This is a private appeal to the folks who know these two personally, although you are welcome to pass along the link to other acquaintances that may be interested in helping.
Thank you for considering this important opportunity to support these two amazing human beings. If each of us can contribute a little bit, we can make a huge difference for Jarrod and Emily during these difficult days.
December 15, 2023 Update: Emily shared the following in a Facebook post yesterday. Based on this update, and the generous outpouring from friends and family, we have adjusted the amount that we hope to raise. Thank you for standing in the gap with Jarrod and Emily!
"So, many of you know that we have been on a journey together, as Jarrod Egley has battled colorectal cancer for seven years. He has beaten every statistic out there. However, we are now at the end-of-life stage. Jarrod entered hospice yesterday, and we will be doing hospice at home.
While we are both confident in our decision, it is a very difficult road to walk, and I need help. Most urgently, I need a nighttime nurse 2-3 times a week, so that I can get quality sleep to be able to patiently and lovingly care for Jarrod during the day. I don't know the exact cost yet because there's a $250 fee to get a list of names of nurses to call. At the very very least, it will be well over $400/night.
In addition to that, despite my diligence and skill navigating the medical system, we were given misinformation about what type of insurance to have when Jarrod went from full time to part time. We are working with our Congressman to try to fix it, but as it stands, we owe over $30,000, and the bills keep coming in. We would be so grateful if you would consider helping us in some way. "
