Standing Wheelchair for Michael Thompson
Donation protected
My name is Christopher Thompson, and our family is fundraising for our little brother, Michael. Michael was involved in an accident in which he fractured his C5 and C6 vertebrae and suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury. As a result of his injuries, Michael suffers from quadriplegia and requires 24/7 support and care. He has spent the last several years rehabilitating physically and emotionally to adjust to his new normal.
Recently, he has been striving to improve his quality of life and develop a level of independence he has not had since his accident. He has been working with a care coordinator to identify programs and equipment to help him achieve this goal. After many discussions and evaluations, it was determined that this standing wheelchair would be critical in assisting Michael in improving his quality of life. His team has researched and identified a fully powered standing wheelchair that will allow him to lie down, stand, sit, and recline. As part of the evaluation and fitting of this chair, Michael was able to stand for the first time since his accident, something he never thought was possible.
We are so happy that Michael has found this opportunity and ask for your help in enabling him to realize his dream of regaining independence. Michael has spent this year working with multiple organizations to identify programs and grants available to help individuals with spinal cord injuries. He is honored and thrilled to be awarded a grant from the Travis Roy Foundation and has exhausted all other grant programs we have been able to identify. We have created this GoFundMe to supplement the Travis Roy grant so Michael can purchase his standing wheelchair and continue his rehabilitation and pursuit of the opportunities this equipment will afford him.
If there is anything you can contribute to support Michael, both he and our family will be forever grateful. Thank you and we are forever indebted for your kindness and consideration in helping Michael and our family.
