Standing with Kim

Hi! My name is Shelley, and I’m setting up this GoFundMe to help my dear friend Kim keep a roof over her head after she found the courage to end an abusive marriage, despite repeated threats that he was going to deliberately make her homeless if she did so. Based on his actions, he has been trying to do just that, through refusing to pay his court-ordered alimony, and trying to drain her financially with false accusations in court (which thankfully, she won). I am setting this up to show Kim that she is not alone in this fight, and that we will not allow an abuser to win.

Kim is one of the hardest working people I know, and has tried to keep herself afloat through working many extra hours at work, selling much of what she owns, and doing all of this while battling terrible migraines. She has always been a generous person with anyone in need, and she has been trying not to ask for help now that she herself is in such desperate need. She had helped her ex-husband build a very successful business together that he continues to profit from, but he has continued to refuse to pay the court-ordered alimony, knowing she didn’t have the money to take him to court for contempt, and is currently in arrears over $110,000. A kind individual has loaned Kim the money to take him to court, but she still needs to keep a roof over her head in the meantime. Kim’s job enables her to pay the majority of her bills, but not her rent, which is now past-due. My goal through this fundraiser is simply to keep her from becoming homeless while she awaits the hearing date for the contempt of court to be heard before the judge. The court order for alimony was already signed by the judge, as well as Kim, her ex-husband, and Kim's lawyer, and is in effect until she dies.

Kim is scared, and feels very alone. She continues to be haunted by his threats of not being able to survive without him. But I would like to raise up a community to stand with her to make sure she not only survives, but thrives, and that she knows she absolutely made the right decision to leave the abuse.
