Standing with Preston: Help Him Heal & Rebuild His Life
Donation protected
On March 4th, our lives changed in an instant. We received a call that no parent should ever have to hear—our beloved Preston had been tragically shot in the abdomen and was in critical condition. His injuries resulted in extensive trauma to his bowel, requiring immediate life-saving interventions.
After being stabilized, Preston was life-flighted to a Level 1 trauma center, where he underwent two intensive laparotomies involving major GI resection and repair. Despite the unimaginable pain and uncertainty, Preston has shown incredible resilience. On March 5th, he started responding to our touch, wiggling his fingers and toes, and even attempting to write while intubated. And by March 6th, a true miracle—he was extubated, awake, and even able to take a few steps.
Though his progress has been encouraging, Preston still has a long and uncertain road to recovery. His medical team is closely monitoring him, and additional surgeries may be needed. We do not yet know the full extent of his physical and emotional healing or the lasting effects this traumatic event will have on his body and mind.
As a family, our priority is Preston’s health, well-being, and supporting him however we can. I have taken a leave of absence from work to be by his side and help him through this difficult journey. I have temporarily relocated to be near the hospital, which has brought unexpected financial strain as we manage lodging, travel expenses, and daily necessities. During my leave, my wife and our family are preparing our home for his rehabilitation and the adjustments that will come with his recovery.
We are also facing uncertainty regarding legal expenses that may arise as we navigate the aftermath of this violent crime. Additionally, Preston’s ability to return to work remains unknown, and we are deeply concerned about his long-term financial security.
This has been the most difficult time of our lives, but through it all, we are overwhelmed with gratitude that Preston is still with us. He is such a kind, loving, and resilient soul—someone who brings joy and light to everyone who knows him.
Many of you have asked how you can help, and we are so incredibly grateful for your support. Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward Preston’s medical expenses, rehabilitation, our family’s ability to stay close to him during his recovery, and any unforeseen costs that arise. Your kindness means the world to us, and we truly could not do this without our community surrounding us with love and support.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. ❤️
