On January 6, 2026, Qutula (affectionately known as Qu) underwent an elective surgery. Just three days later, she was admitted to Lankenau Medical Center due to shortness of breath. She suspected she had developed a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in her lungs), which was sadly confirmed by the medical team. They decided to admit her for closer monitoring.
Shortly after, Qu encountered unexpected complications and suffered three cardiac arrests, necessitating emergency resuscitation. She was intubated and moved to the ICU to receive higher level of care. While in the ICU, Qu began experiencing seizures. Given the severity of her condition, the Lankenau team arranged for her to be airlifted to Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience for specialized treatment.
Once her seizures were stabilized, the medical team conducted additional diagnostic tests, including an MRI, to assess any potential brain injury. The MRI results revealed diffuse global hypoxic ischemia, indicating that her brain was deprived of sufficient oxygen during her medical emergencies.
Throughout this ordeal, Qu's only son, Zayhir, along with dedicated family members and close friends, have been by her side every day, praying for her recovery. After careful discussions with her care team, the family has decided that the best next step for Qu’s ongoing recovery is to proceed with a tracheostomy to support her breathing in the long term.
Qu is facing a long and very challenging journey ahead. To help alleviate the financial burden of medical expenses, ongoing care needs, and support for her family during this difficult time, we are reaching out for the kindness and generosity of friends, family, and anyone inspired to lend a hand.
Your support, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful impact as Qu continues her fight. Thank you for keeping her and her loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
