STANLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT K9 FUND
Donation protected
We are excited to announce that the City of Stanley Common Council recently approved fundraising for the first-ever Stanley Police Department K9.
Once implemented, the K9 will be an incredible asset to the city and surrounding communities through its dedicated drug enforcement and community outreach. Before any of this can become a reality, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
As a police department, we have seen the overwhelmingly positive effects that K9's have on the community in which they serve. With that being said, we want you to understand why we believe a K9 addition to our department is worth our time and resources but more importantly right now, your financial contribution. We do not take your anticipated generosity lightly and can assure you that your tax-deductible donation will be going to a most-worthy cause.
You might ask yourself, why a K9 for the Stanley Police Department? What will the K9 bring to the community and what ultimately is its role in assisting law enforcement? Hey, we think these are some great questions.
Some of the benefits that will result in the implementation of our K9 will include:
-A significant increase in our drug enforcement abilities and will serve as a active deterrent for those who may choose to use or sell drugs.
-With a decrease in drug activity, a reduction in other crimes (particularly theft and burglary) will result.
-The K9 will serve as a search tool for missing children, elderly and people in danger.
-Serve as a search and apprehension resource for suspects of crime
-Reduction in potential officer injuries during apprehension attempts
-Public relations tool at schools and other area community events
-Overall safer community for everyone as a result
The ripple effect that drug-related cases are having on our communities are astronomical. To put this in perspective...In 2016 alone, there were more than 100 cases within Chippewa County where children were involved in out-of-home care due to Methamphetamine related investigations at a projected cost of over 1.1 million dollars to local tax payers. Stanley is certainly not immune from these statistical nightmares and we owe it to our children and communities to do more!
To remain a proactive leader in drug enforcement, the Stanley Police Department has set a K9 start-up fundraising goal of $80,000. We realize this is a significant investment but also realize the resulting benefits will far exceed the start-up costs. We will all be able to look back on the day when this fundraising adventure began and reflect on how grateful we are that we made the decision to support such a worth-while cause.
Our fundraising goal is based on lots of research and comparisons obtained from other local departments that have had successful K9 units for multiple years. When we reach our goal, the funds we raise are going to be used to pay for the following:
-the K9 itself and all applicable training that will be required between it and its handler
-A K9 specific squad car (which will include a heat alarm, cooling system, remote door, 2/3 cage for the K9 as well as all other standard law enforcement equipment)
-Food, kennel, bullet/stab proof vest, veterinary costs, E-collar, leads, tugs, muzzle, leashes, bowls, etc.
Through public donations and our collaborative fundraising efforts, together we can make this a reality.
We will continually add updates as they become available as it relates to fundraising events. We want you to be along with us every step of the way as we literally watch this reality grow from absolutely nothing.
